Prairie towns
dotted across cornfields and wheat fields
deserted by youth
too full of dreams to stay
no longer vibrant hubs
for
coffee conversations
church suppers
VFW beers and stories
school fairs
Friday night lights
worn out
drained of energy
dim and eerily silent
in their eminent death
silo tombs
of the heartland

This is something a little bit different from my normal writing but something very close to my Midwestern heart. “Silo Tombs” was a prompt by the fantastic JulyFalls18 prompters. This came to me as I traveled this weekend past many a silo and small town. God bless America’s small towns.
Different but equally good!

My legs have never been happier lol. And yes, something very different for me, but I liked writing it. Thanks Jack.

This is a very poignant commentary on the plight of so many small towns. The rise if the Interstate road system signalled the death knell of so many, but many got creative and survived. I grew up in small towns and am living in one again. Great post!

Thanks Walt. It is a sad plight and I am happy to see towns that have figured out how to survive. “The Good Life”
