Who really am I?
What makes
my blood flow
desires burn
passion spill
into the streets I walk?

One day
my courage opened
a forbidden door
the flame inside me
blazed
allowed at last
to burn
in ways it always yearned
fear ran away with the wind
confidence held my hand
and the real me
lived her life
and inked her pages
with the breaths
of her heart and soul
never regretting
one minute of it

lost among winds of time and change
wandering through memories of laughter and pain
fighting the rains
washing me clean

washing me away
my world turned on its axis

My deck and I
are becoming very good friends
he lets me vent
lets me cry
lets me sing
lets me dance
he has ears to listen
and keeps secrets
oh so very well
he offers views of nature
that fuel my soul
and approves of wine or vodka
being sipped in the cool
evening hours
my new friend offers a lap
where I am totally comfortable
to be myself
we’re going to have
a great relationship

Today it was real
this was it
I am no longer
what I was
the me I knew
for 31 years
has disappeared
into the ghost yard
of those before me
I have no schedule
no constraints of time
no eyes upon me
looking for knowledge
I gladly gave each day
my time is now my own
and I am free

Etched in blood and ink
raw emotion
of a storm raging relentlessly
until…
Blue sky waved at me
grabbed my hand
pulled me along
chased dark clouds
into a corner
and locked them away
then…
she picked up a
pretty, purple pen
placed it in my hand
and happy began
to flow onto the page
once again
